 How We Got Here. Statewide was organized in 1949 as the Jackson USDA Federal Credit Union, by a group of forward-thinking employees of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to serve USDA employees in Mississippi. Like a lot of credit unions, Statewide was operated "out of a desk drawer" in those early years! Until the credit union grew to sufficient size to warrant a full-time paid staff, it was operated by a USDA employee as a volunteer effort on a part-time basis. Without those stalwart volunteers, we would not have the strong, vibrant organization that Statewide has become! Over the ensuing years, Statewide grew tremendously as USDA employees learned how the credit union could play a part in their lives, helping them to save and providing a great place to borrow. The best part, most found, was that it was their own coworkers providing the impetus for keeping the credit union moving forward, the same as they do today! During that time, Statewide also began offering other services to make its members lives better such as Checking, Debit Cards, Real Estate Loans, and more. In short, the credit union became a full-service financial institution for its members, not just a place to save for a rainy day! In 1990, we began expanding the membership groups served by the credit union. That year, the Mississippi Educational Credit Union serving Mississippi Department of Education employees merged with Statewide. Since then, six other credit unions have been merged into our credit union. In 2000, the decision was made to change the name to Statewide to more accurately reflect the makeup of our membership. Today, Statewide serves more than fifty different membership groups! From those groups, over 14,500 members now call Statewide their financial home! Statewide currently ranks as the eighth largest credit union in Mississippi, with strong financial ratings, and a record of conservative, member-oriented management. From our three physical locations and our worldwide e*Br@nch home banking service, Statewide is able to offer services to its members anywhere they may be!
